Press Release Template
CONTACT: [your name]
Company/Organization Name: [your high school]
Phone number: [your home or cell phone number]
Email Address: [an email address that you check regularly]
<HEADLINE> This is the first thing a journalist will see; keep your headline concise, enticing and relevant to your story. Headlines should be bolded.
<City>, <State>, <Date> – Begin your press release with a two sentence paragraph that provides a quick overview of the news and why it is important, touching on each of your five W’s (who, what, why, when and where). It should read easily and make your news sound exciting to a general audience. Quick tip: remember to write in third person, not first.
Next, provide some background information on your experience. Make sure to write your release in terms that the general public will understand. Try not use terminology or acronyms (like MCS, HEC, etc) that readers might not know. Your text should explain why your experience was unique and intrigue readers to find out more by visiting the Maine Coast Semester website or contacting you, (or Chewonki!), for more information.
ABOUT MAINE COAST SEMESTER at CHEWONKI [include this paragraph at the end of your press release]: Maine Coast Semester provides a challenging academic program for a small number of highly motivated high school juniors. During their four months, students combine challenging academic coursework with hands-on practice in nature, learn the art and skills of sustainable living, and discover how they can help bring out the best in communities near and far. They leave with new skills, confidence, and purpose – and the knowledge that they can make a difference.
