Yesterday we got our first real snowfall in all of our MCS experience. We have been through polar bears in ice water, hair freezing after showers and the only cold that burns. Now we get to experience the only positive thing about weather that cracks lips and numbs extremities.
We woke up at our normal time of 6:00 AM and looked out to a new world. The grass was covered in a white, unbroken blanket of fresh snow. The trees were bending under the weight of thousands of snowflakes. We stepped outside and welcomed the cold. We stepped out on the path and avoided the boardwalk, sinking into the snow. As we walked, the ground crunched beneath us. As we looked behind, we could see a line of footprints marking the path we had walked.
Tomorrow finals will come, but for now that did not matter. We ate breakfast and came out into the cold to pack together the fresh snow and have a snowball fight. Our work was forgotten and our stress was relieved. For a brief moment we were nothing more than children playing in the snow.
