On Saturday, we all went to various places in Lincoln County to do community service. I went with eight other students and Abby to the Lincoln County Animal Shelter. We were really excited to play with the animals! Our first task was to consolidate different piles of brush so that the animals would be able to run around outside. While we were doing this, some of the dogs came to visit us and we got to play catch with them and take them on walks. We were luckily able to work through the brush pretty quickly and once we had finished all of the piles, we went inside and took a tour of the building. I think our favorite room was the nursery, where we saw 2-day old kittens, 2-week old kittens, and chinchillas. We also really liked the bigger cat room where you could play with some of the older cats that hadn’t yet been adopted. We also befriended a little girl who was adopting a kitten for her birthday and we helped her choose which kitten to get. My favorite part was playing with Rocky the beagle. Bella, Abby, and I spent some time chasing him around outside and trying to get him interested in a tennis ball, but he soon got tired and flopped down on the ground waiting for us to pet him.
On our way home we prowled the streets for more people we could help, and although Abby didn’t let us stop at Big Al’s or Dunkin Donuts, the service day was a lot of fun!
