Goals for Graduates
At the heart, Chewonki Semester School is a rigorous academic program that challenges student’s thinking to go deeper and for students to take ownership for their education. But, we also ask students to live in an intentional community of peers and teachers in a natural setting, so our graduates come away with more than just an incredible education. The characteristics below reflect the faculty’s goals for each individual who attends Chewonki Semester School.
Chewonki graduates are characterized by:
Taking ownership for their learning, approaching challenging problems with curiosity, critical thinking, and creativity, and integrating their learning into a cohesive whole.
Living a life of integrity and intention, taking initiative to improve their communities through individual and collective action, while understanding that we live in an interconnected world of limited resources.
Forming intelligent thoughts and incisive questions in verbal and written form as well as mindfully listening to the thoughts of others.
Sense of Place
Striving for a deeper understanding of the natural world and their place within it through focused observation of details, patterns and connections.
Sense of Self
Possessing a heightened understanding and acceptance of their individual talents and limits.
