This week we’ll be focusing on academics and giving you a peak into what a school week is like at Chewonki Semester School. Today we’re featuring the new Sustainability Track. Students choose to either take classes in Farm and Food Systems or Energy Solutions. Here’s an update from Megan Philips, Farm Manager, and lead teacher for the Farm and Food Systems Class, “We’ve critically read food labels, discussed different farming systems, and learned about food insecurity in the United States. Students are writing “This I Believe” statements this week about their personal food ethics; next week we’ll gather to share our essays and to brainstorm ways to meaningfully intersect with family, friends, and food over the Thanksgiving break.” Tom Twist, who teaches the Energy Solutions Class says students have been working on Building Science: how to insulate a home, energy audits, and solar panels. They also just completed a unit on electric vehicles. Stay tuned for more updates throughout the week from other classes!
