About

Alexis Grillo

Alexis started working at Chewonki in 2017 in the Maine Coast Semester admissions office and has been the alumni & friends coordinator since 2019. She is passionate about helping nonprofits thrive through creative approaches, data-driven solutions, and strong communication. Alexis received a B.F.A. from Alfred University in 2008 and a graduate certificate in nonprofit management from Boston University in 2018. She is currently finishing up her Masters of Policy, Planning, and Management at the Muskie School of Public Service at the University of Southern Maine, focusing on cultural leadership and strategic storytelling for nonprofits.

Before transitioning into the world of outdoor education, Alexis spent ten years managing nonprofit art organizations in Upstate New York and Maine, including exhibition and event spaces, as well as artist-in-residence and educational programs. She has widely exhibited her artwork and is the recipient of several grants and residencies. In addition to painting and drawing, Alexis practices photography, videography, graphic design, and writing.

In 2019, Alexis and her husband co-founded Supermoon Maine, a small home renovation and rental business. They are currently remodeling a 1970’s-era a-frame into their year-round home. In her free time, Alexis enjoys being outside in the woods or on the water and spending time with her friends and family in Maine.

What Brought Me to Chewonki?

What brought me to Chewonki was largely coincidental, but what keeps me here is our transformational work with students, the tight-knit community, and a meaningful opportunity to support an organization I deeply care for.
