A native of Maine and graduate of Hebron Academy, Katherine (Katie) Curtis is the newest member of the Maine Coast Semester math team. Over the past six years, Katie has taught middle and high school math at both Falmouth Academy and the Dublin School, where she also coached crew.
Additionally, Katie spent three years as a research scientist for the Army Corps of Engineers at the Cold Regions Research and Engineering Laboratory in Hanover, New Hampshire.
Katie writes, “An important role I have as a teacher is fostering an environment that allows all students to feel successful, respected, and that they have some control over their own learning. To achieve this, I work extensively with students one-on-one, often outside of class, to further their confidence.” This theme of building student confidence has also been a part of her ongoing work with Junior Maine Guides.
Katie holds a BA in Geology from Colby College and a MS in Earth Sciences from Dartmouth College.
